Fall Classic Game 7 Attracts Over 50 Million Viewers Across the US, Canada and Japan Markets.

The exciting 11-inning clash that saw the Dodgers beat the Blue Jays 5-4 averaged a aggregate over 50 million spectators across the United States, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB reported this represents the highest-rated World Series Game 7 after the 1991 showdown between the Twins and Braves.

Broadcast Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic contest secured 27.33M viewers on Fox Sports networks, its Spanish-language channel and Fox’s streaming platforms. Per ratings data, it was the second most-watched program of the week.

It also stands as the top-rated World Series game after the 2017 edition Game 7 involving the Dodgers and Houston Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a sixteen percent increase over the previous finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Houston Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, the sixth game placed 4th, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game was 8th, and the third game landed in thirteenth position.

International Audience Numbers

In Canada, the climactic game recorded 11.6 million watchers on the Sportsnet network and the French TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English-language broadcast in the country since the 2010 Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding contest started at 9 p.m. local time, it attracted 12 million viewers. This came after last Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed one run in six frames – drew over 13 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Overall Totals and Trends

The full seven-game series recorded over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a two percent increase from the previous year’s Dodgers versus Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the Fall Classic has seen viewership growth for two straight seasons.

Counting the opening game broadcast on Univision, the total American average reached 16.1M. The overall Fall Classic viewership in the Japanese market was 9.7M and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete MLB Postseason on Fox, FS1 and FS2 drew over 8 million viewers, an 8% increase over last year and the network’s strongest playoff ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the Fall Classic was televised in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different languages.
